EDID, HDCP and Cable Planning
EDID tells each source which video and audio formats the connected system can accept; it does not convert the signal resolution. When one source feeds both 4K and 1080p displays, use a format supported by every destination on that route unless suitable scaling is provided. To send the same source to a 4K display at 4K and a 1080p display at 1080p simultaneously, confirm that the selected model or downstream equipment provides the required output scaling. Record the approved EDID and scaling settings during commissioning.
HDCP compatibility must also be checked end to end. A protected source, the matrix, any extender and the display must support the required HDCP version. The 4K 30Hz series uses an HDMI 1.4 and HDCP 1.4 platform, while the 4K 60Hz series uses HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. Cable quality and distance become more demanding at higher bandwidth, so test the actual installation path rather than relying only on short bench cables.
